WHAT IS MYOBRACE?
Myobrace is a type of “myofunctional orthodontic device” which refers to addressing issues with abnormal patterns of the face and mouth. These issues cause teeth to grow crooked and/or become crowded, which leads to malocclusion and other problems.
Myobrace fits into the category of “expanders” or “growth appliances.” They are not mechanical. Unlike traditional braces that reposition teeth, expanders stimulate the jaw and facial bone structure growth. This creates more room inside the mouth for the teeth and tongue to function properly.
Myobrace is usually not an alternative to braces, although in some patients they can help prevent the need for them later in life. In some cases, a combination of Myobrace and traditional braces may be used. This often depends on how early corrective action is taken with the patient.
Candidates for Myobrace are typically children 3 to 15 years of age. This span corresponds to the time when the most growth occurs in the jaw and adjacent bone structure.
Myobrace treatment varies in duration. The required timespan is unique for every patient and depends on the severity of the issue you are addressing.
“Myobrace®System is preventive pre-orthodontic treatment that focuses on addressing the underlying causes of crooked teeth, often without the need for braces or extraction of teeth, unlocking natural growth and development. Treatment is best suited to children aged 3 to 15 and involves using a series of removable intraoral appliances that are worn for one to two hours each day plus overnight while sleeping.”

WHAT DOES USING MYOBRACE HELP WITH?
Helps the patient breathe through the nose
Encourages correct tongue resting position
Teaches swallowing correctly while having the appliance in
Patient has to keep the lips together to keep the appliance in their mouth
WHY SHOULD I BE CONCERNED WITH TEETH ALIGNMENT STARTING AT SUCH A YOUNG AGE?
Thumb sucking and the use of pacifiers is common in babies and are habits that usually linger into the toddler years. However, did you know that this can cause developmental problems in your child as they age? By pressing the tongue or thumb up against the roof of the mouth, it distorts the arch of the mouth causing it to become vaulted and narrow. When the palate is vaulted and narrow, the tongue is not able to fit up in the roof of the mouth. The tongue acts as a natural tooth eruption guide and without it’s presence in the palate teeth may erupt and grow in crooked. This can lead to developmental problems like mouth breathing or improper swallowing. Addressing these problems early on will help with the proper development of the jaw and behavioral concerns associated with lack of airway space. Due to the design of Myobrace, it can train your child’s subconscious habits to keep the tongue in proper position, encourage breathing through the nose and guide proper swallowing.
WHY DO WE USE MYOBRACE AS A GUIDE BETWEEN ORTHODONTIC PHASES?
Helps correct poor oral habits
Aids in proper alignment of the teeth
Supports facial development
Encourages correct swallowing

PHASE 1 RETENTION PATIENT
“We were nervous to be sent home with the MyoBrace at first for our daughter instead of being given a permanent retainer. It wasn’t easy to fit it in our daughter’s mouth at first, and it took a good 2 weeks before she could manage to wear it overnight comfortably. Since then, she has gotten used to it and can wear it in the evenings for a few hours and overnight and close her mouth around it completely and comfortably. Her teeth are staying in line and her good tongue and breathing habits are being reinforced by using the MyoBrace faithfully!”
